National Museum of Nuclear Science & History In Albuquerque, New Mexico

Established in 1969, The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque, New Mexico is an intriguing site to learn the tale of the Atomic Ages, starting from the nuclear development's early research through the nuclear technology's peaceful uses of today. As the only congressionally chartered museum in the field of nuclear science in the nation and a Smithsonian Affiliate, this museum offers visitors a one-of-a-kind exploration experience with a vivid and memorable understanding of the past and present influence of nuclear science in our world.

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History strives to showcase, through changing and permanent displays and exhibits, nuclear science's diverse applications in the past, present, and future as well as the narratives of the pioneers of this field. Additionally, the Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History's construction in 1969 was the outcome of a six-year endeavor to create a museum that tells the chronicle of the base and the progress of nuclear weapons. The museum was constructed on Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. The name of the museum was replaced in 1973 as the National Atomic Museum with the aim of reflecting the increasing national and international patrons and for the fact that the museum was the only public museum that conserve the nuclear industry's history.

In 2001, The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History at the Kirkland Air Force Base closed its doors on account of the Base's heightened security measures and was re-opened in 2009 in its current setting in southeast Albuquerque when the Museum's name was changed to The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. The Museum presents quality educational programs and exhibits that convey the assortment of events and individuals that formed the technical and historical background of the nuclear age.

The featured exhibits at the Museum provide an accessible, objective window towards nuclear science's past, present, and future. These exhibits cover the entirety from the atomic theory's origins, the intricacy of political scenarios adding to World War II, the peak of the Cold War, to the nuclear medicine's modern-day advances - and even started to speculate on the future of this fascinating field.

Exhibits of The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History include Nuclear by Mail, Dark Cube: Heisenberg's Race for the Bomb, Heritage Park, Pioneers of the Atom, Critical Assembly, the Secrets of Los Alamos 1944, Decision to Drop, Atomic Culture, Little Albert's Lab, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Radiation 101, Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Waste Transportation, Energy Encounter, and more. The Museum also offers virtual exhibits on Nuclear Energy and Atomic Advertising.

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History encourages and invites visitors to bring students and children and to utilize their numerous educational programs. The Museum's Science is Everywhere Science Kids Camp provides creative and fun activities that will cultivate the imaginations of the kids in the field of biology, physics, chemistry, weird science, engineering, forensics, robotics, and more. Other annual and special educational programs at the Museum include Discover STEAM Week, Nuclear Science Week, and Einstein Express. Moreover, the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History presents hands-on activities and programs that can be customized to curriculum and grade level for outreach and field trips. The Museum's programs can be upgraded with docent-guided or self-guided tours.

From its indoor exhibits varying from nuclear energy and medicine to WWII, housing several military vehicles, missiles, and iconic aircraft, to its nine-acre outdoor exhibit zone, The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is a place to imagine, to think, to learn, and to deduce your own conclusions.
