Dry Needling
Dry Needling (DN) uses a thin mono-filament needle, which is a safe and effective treatment for dysfunctional muscles that can improve performance through eliciting a local twitch response.
Benefits of Dry Needling
-
Relaxes the muscle tissue
-
Can increase neuromuscular firing (improved muscle contraction)
-
Increase blood flow
-
Reduce pain
-
Improve tissue elasticity
Does it Hurt?
No, it should not hurt. You may feel a tiny prick as the needle enters the skin. Expect a twitch followed by a relaxing of the muscle tissue when the needle releases the trigger point.
How is it Different from Acupuncture?
Acupuncture – the needle gets inserted into the skin based on the Meridian System.
Dry Needling- the needle is inserted through the skin and directly into the muscle. Insertion is based on pain.
