PT Spotlight – Dr. Jamie Grigsby

How did you become interested in physical therapy, and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?
I have always been interested in the medical field, but life first led me to pursue a Master's Degree in piano, and I have been a private piano teacher for 25 years. During that time, I developed an interest and specialization in an injury-preventive technique. Working with the technique of injured keyboardists fueled the fire to work with the injuries themselves, bringing me to the world of physical therapy.

Why is exercise important in maintaining overall physical health and preventing injuries?
Engaging in exercise in any form is essential for helping the body thrive, staying active in the activities you love, and clearing the mind. The wonderful thing is that exercise means many different things to different people. The important thing is to find something enjoyable, whether that means going to the gym, finding a tai chi class, walking around the neighborhood, or hiking in the mountains. Find something you enjoy and look forward to doing, and will be easy to maintain!

What activities do you enjoy outside of work that contribute to your physical health?
I enjoy running, yoga, and going to the gym as much as possible around my three teenagers' busy schedules.

Additionally, Dr. Grigsby was recently named Vice President of the Hand and Upper Extremity Academy of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
