The Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) test evaluates the three sensory components of the balance system for deficits that may be contributing to imbalance or dizziness symptoms. There are three different systems controlling balance and all are addressed by the CDP test.
-Visual system (eyes)
-Somatosensory system (body, feet, muscles nerves)
-Vestibular system (inner ears)
The test measures movement (or postural sway) under six different conditions where the floor and visual surround move both independently and simultaneously. This test also includes a test of central motor systems that analyze how the brain talks to muscles to help the body react to changes in balance.
CDP testing may be incorporated into the comprehensive dizziness/imbalance plan of care to determine which balance systems are affected and to what degree. Patients are attached to a harness system so there is no risk of falling during testing. Following testing, patients are counseled on the results by a skilled practitioner. Each patient’s Information from CDP testing is utilized to tailor treatment sessions to each patient’s unique needs.
A variety of neurological diagnoses can benefit from CDP testing including but not limited to:
-Vestibular migraines
-Vestibular hypofunction
-Concussion/TBI
-Multiple Sclerosis
-Parkinson’s Disease
-Stroke
-Cerebellar Disorders
-Generalized dizziness and/or imbalance
In addition to balance assessments, there are a multitude of treatment options within this platform that can be used to strengthen each of the three balance systems and simulate day-to-day activities including driving and visiting the grocery store. This state-of-the-art equipment is unique to our clinic and the only one in Siouxland.
