Understanding Pelvic Health

Pelvic health is about much more than the muscles “down there.” It’s the foundation of your posture, core stability, bladder and bowel control, and even sexual wellness. Yet, many people live quietly with pain, leakage, or discomfort — not realizing help is available.

At FYZICAL De Zavala, our occupational therapist can provide specialized pelvic health therapy designed to restore normal function, reduce pain, and help you feel confident in your body again.

Benefits of Pelvic Health Therapy

Our Occupational Therapist will work privately with you to customize a healthcare plan that can help treat the frustrating symptoms of pelvic health disorders. Through methods like pelvic floor muscle retraining, core/hip strengthening, and biofeedback, our OT will guide you through your therapy program. With the common goal of restoring your strength, coordination, and confidence in daily life activities, we’ll help get you running errands or running after kids without the fear of leakage.

Pelvic Health Disorders

Your pelvic floor consists of skin, muscles, ligaments, nerves, connective tissues, blood vessels, and organs in your pelvis. It provides stability for your pelvic girdle and spine, supporting your bladder, rectum, and pelvic organs. When these muscles become too weak, tight, or uncoordinated they can cause uncomfortable symptoms and lead to pelvic floor disorders.

Our occupational therapist works with individuals experiencing:

• Pelvic floor dysfunction (hypertonic or hypotonic)
• Urinary or fecal incontinence
• Pelvic organ prolapse
• Interstitial cystitis / bladder pain syndrome
• Endometriosis-related pelvic pain
• Postpartum recovery and diastasis recti
• Prostatectomy or pelvic surgery recovery
• Chronic pelvic pain syndrome
