Colorado Direct Access Laws

Colorado law allows patients total, unrestricted access to physical therapy. No type of physician referral is required for a physical therapist to treat a patient. However, state law prohibits physical therapists from diagnosing diseases. If a physical therapist believes the patient’s care exceeds the physical therapy scope of practice, the therapist must refer the patient to a qualified healthcare provider.
