Understanding Balance & Fall Risk
Balance problems are more than inconvenient — they’re dangerous. At FYZICAL Fort Lee, we get to the root cause of your dizziness or instability and help you move safely, confidently, and independently again.

What Is Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)?
VRT is a specialized form of physical therapy that targets balance and inner ear issues through customized exercises. These movements retrain your brain to compensate for inner ear dysfunction by strengthening your other senses (like vision and proprioception) — helping reduce symptoms like dizziness, vertigo, and unsteadiness.
How Your Vestibular System Works
Your vestibular system controls your sense of balance, stability, and spatial orientation. It includes:
- Peripheral components in your inner ear (semicircular canals, utricle, saccule)
- Central components in your brainstem and cerebellum that process movement and sensory feedback
Disruptions from injury, infection, aging, or illness can cause symptoms like:
- Vertigo or spinning sensations
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Nausea or motion sensitivity
- Hearing changes or ringing in the ears
- Difficulty walking or maintaining balance
Conditions We Treat with VRT
- Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
- Vestibular neuritis & labyrinthitis
- Post-concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Neck-related dizziness
- Migraine-associated dizziness
- Multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s Disease
- Age-related balance decline & fall risk
