Understanding Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Osteoarthritis of the knee is not merely a consequence of aging or mechanical “wear and tear”; it is increasingly being viewed through the lens of metabolic health and lifestyle factors. In most cases, the cause of osteoarthritis and the pain associated with OA is due to a biological cause as opposed to a mechanical one. This is why paying attention to our metabolic health is of paramount importance. Doing so will not only limit the progression of the arthritis but will also significantly decrease the pain associated with OA.

MOVE WELL

TREATING CONTUSIONS

No matter the cause or severity of your contusion, your physical therapist can help to manage and treat your contusion using a variety of therapies, including rest, ice, heat, compression, elevation, and others so that you experience a speedy recovery.

ELBOW PAIN?

Golfers elbow. Tennis Elbow. The cause of elbow pain doesn’t have to be from these two sports, but this time of year, they tend to be the most likely cause. The problem with tendon strains and tendinopathies is that the body needs load to heal. In this case, playing through the pain, but with appropriate load management strategies, stretching and targeted strength work is a better choice than straight rest. Over time, the pain will slowly go away. It is best not to focus on and certainly best not to get a steroid injection for it. Trust that it will (eventually) go away. It just takes many, many months. In folks with metabolic diseases (like diabetes or thyroid issues), the pain can last up to or more than a year.
