April is Move More Month! This month, read tips on how to increase your physical activities and learn how movement is medicine for those with Parkinson's Disease. Hear from one of our patients post-hip replacement and try our delicious, spring-inspired recipes! Let's Get Active For Move More Month!

The American Heart Association promotes Move More Month every April to encourage all Americans to increase their physical activity on a regular basis by incorporating more movement into your daily routine. Getting active every day can improve brain health, help manage weight, reduce risk of diseases, strengthen muscles, and improve physical ability to do everyday activities.  

 

Follow the below tips to increase your physical activity:

  • Work at a desk? Try a stand-up or walking meeting: Did you know that walking could increase your creative output? Next time you have a call or in-person meeting, go for a walk or try standing up to get your blood pumping, and increase your caloric output.
  • Keep up with your household duties: Clean your space and work out your body! Whether you are doing laundry, cleaning the floors, or washing the dishes, you'll be working your muscles and elevating your heart.
  • Move while watching a movie or show: During commercial breaks, get up and move your body by walking around your house or doing a quick at-home workout. You could also purchase a Walking Pad to help motivate you to get moving.
  • Plan your workouts: Our daily activities are driven by habit creation. Therefore setting a consistent time to workout will help ingrain it as a habit instead of a one-off experience. 
  • Motivate yourself to workout: Purchase a page-turning audiobook, create a playlist full of your favorite songs, or save your favorite podcast for your workout. This will increase your motivation to stick to your workouts.

LSVT BIG For Parkinson's Disease

LSVT BIG will help improve movements for any activity, whether it is small motor tasks, such as buttoning a shirt or large motor tasks, such as getting up from a couch or walking. This treatment will help to improve self-care, walking, and other tasks by helping people recalibrate their movements.

Meet our Patient, Sharon!

Sharon attended physical therapy after her revision hip replacement surgery. She decided to go to FYZICAL because of the clinic's convenience and good experience that her friends have had here.
