1. Shoulder Injuries
Rotator cuff injury: The rotator cuff is comprised of four muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint. The rotator cuff can become injured during overhead activities or prolonged bouts of heavy lifting. They can also be damaged acutely in a fall or accident. Symptoms of this injury are: recurrent pain, grating or cracking sounds with movement, limited range of motion, and muscle weakness.
2. Elbow injuries
Tennis/Golfers elbow (lateral & medial epicondylitis): These injuries usually involve the damage of tendons and muscles surrounding the elbow. Tennis elbow is most often caused by overusing the forearm due to repetitive activities. It can also be damaged acutely by hitting your elbow. The pain usually derives on the outside of your elbow. Golfer’s elbow, on the other hand, causes pain on the inside of your elbow. The primary damage with this injury is caused by overuse of the muscles and tendons that control your wrist and fingers. Symptoms may include: burning or pain of the outer/inner elbow, stiffness, limited range of motion, and swelling.
3. Knee Injuries
Runners knee: This injury can be caused several ways. The name was coined from the injury being seen in runners. However, this injury can be brought on my any activity that repeatedly stresses the knee. Having weak thigh muscles causes lack of support in the knee, and this can also attribute to Runner’s Knee. This condition causes pain or tenderness close to or under the patella.
Meniscal tear: Meniscal cartilage is a shock absorber in the knee. An unusual turn or twist can cause a tear. Typically, they are torn when there is a sprain or complete tear of the knee ligaments. Symptoms are a popping sensation, swelling or stiffness, pain when twisting, feeling of giving away in the knee, and difficulty straightening the knee fully.
4. Leg injuries
Hamstring strain: Three muscles run along the back of the thigh and form the hamstring. Generally, damage to the hamstring muscles occurs when there is muscle overload. When the muscles are fully extended, any added stress may cause the strain or tear. Symptoms of a hamstring strain are pain in the back of the thigh, tenderness, swelling or bruising in the said area, and weakness in the leg from the hamstring injury.
5. Ankle injuries
Ankle sprain: Ankle sprains can happen at any point in which the ligaments either get overly stretched or torn from twisting or rolling in an awkward way. Symptoms may include pain when weight bearing, tenderness with touch, swelling, bruising, instability, and restricted range of motion.
