Parkinson's Disease Awareness

April is Parkinson's awareness month. Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects the dopamine producing neurons in the brain. Parkinson's symptoms generally develop slowly over the course of several years, and the progression and severity of symptoms vary person to person. The cause of Parkinson's is unknown and currently there is no cure for it. There may not be a cure right now but there are treatment options that can help those suffering from Parkinson's disease. Your therapist at Fyzical have a way to help.

How can physical therapy help? For those with Parkinson's it is important to move and keep moving as long as your able. Research suggest that regular physical therapy--including gait and balance training, resistance training and regular exercise -- may help improve or hold the symptoms of PD at bay. Physical Therapy is helpful at all stages of Parkinson's. Don't miss the opportunity to address impairments early.
