Welcome to FYZICAL Niceville's March Newsletter!

March is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Education & Awareness Month. This month, learn more about MS and how physical therapy can help manage symptoms; read about our concussion management program and meet one of our team leaders! If you have a loved one who could benefit from the information below, please forward this newsletter to them.

How Physical Therapy Can Help Those Living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

MS is a chronic and unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide. It is an autoimmune disorder, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, and in this case, the protective layer around nerve fibers. This damage disrupts communication between the brain and other parts of the body, leading to a range of symptoms that can greatly impact an individual's quality of life.

Symptoms can be minimized with the help of physical therapy. At FYZICAL, our team will develop an individualized treatment plan so they can target the specific areas of concern. Physical therapy is an essential component of managing MS symptoms and improving overall functioning. It involves using various exercises, techniques, and strategies to help individuals maintain mobility, strength, balance, and coordination. Physical therapists also provide education and guidance on how to manage symptoms and prevent complications.

Concussion Management

A concussion is a brain injury caused by acceleration or deceleration of the brain within the skull following a significant impact to the head or elsewhere on the body. Symptoms may include loss of consciousness, headache, pressure in the head, neck pain, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, or balance problems, among others. Our physical therapy program provides individualized care that addresses your physical, mental, emotional, and social needs, allowing you to safely return to sports, school, work, and play. Your physical therapist will develop an individualized treatment plan. Some common treatment options include manual therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, vision therapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, and cardiovascular exercise, as well as education and counseling for managing symptoms, returning to normal activities, and preventing further injury.
