South Carolina Direct Access Laws

South Carolina law allows direct patient access to physical therapy with some provisions. Treatment may be administered with the following provisions: If there is no physician referral and the physical therapist treats the patient beyond 30 days from the initial evaluation, the physical therapist must refer the patient to an appropriate healthcare provider. The physical therapist must refer the patient to an appropriate healthcare professional if the physical therapist feels that the patient’s care goes beyond the physical therapy scope of practice.
