Why are wobble/balance discs so versatile in Physical Therapy?
Wobble/Balance discs are great items to have for a variety of ailments and exercises. They are a great all around tool to have at home, the office, or in school with kids. They are disc shaped cushions filled with air. As a physical therapist, I recommend them to a lot of patients to get for home use. One of my biggest ailments that I suggest this retail item to is for people suffering chronic back pain. This disc can be used in three different ways for people with back pain. It can be sat on in
any hard chair surface and allow the patient to shift their pelvis to move the joints in the lumbar spine as well as keep the joints lubricated with more motion during prolonged sitting postures. It can also be placed in the lumbar back region to help support proper lumbar lordosis in a siting posture. A lot of patients also use this for long car rides for extra lumbar support. In pediatrics, you can see them being used as wobble discs to help children with Sensory and Attention disorders. They have also been a great addition to schools to help keep kids interested in learning and to not distract the rest of the class when the child has to move around to keep focused. Lastly, wobble/balance disc can be used to challenge one’s balance by standing, kneeling, or sitting on it. Balance is the core to everyone’s wellness which makes this a great item for all to have.
