Happy Women's Health Month! Continue reading to learn more about how physical therapy can provide relief from female-specific conditions, arthritis discomfort and knee pain.

Physical Therapy for Women's Health

Let’s face it, a woman’s body has characteristics and
abilities that a man’s does not. Women are susceptible to several health issues and painful conditions that men will never encounter.

Physical Therapy is a fantastic educational, emotional and physical solution that women can turn to when seeking comfort and relief from female-specific problems. Numerous treatments and therapies can help women when dealing with many conditions, whether it’s before, during or after the onset of symptoms. Women are 1.5 times more likely to have headaches and neck, shoulder, knee, or back pain; 2 times more likely to have oral or facial pain; 2.5 times more likely to suffer from migraines; and 4 times more likely to have fibromyalgia. Women also often deal with pelvic floor issues and pain after having children. Our physical therapists would be happy to talk to you and answer any questions you may have about whether physical therapy is right for you.

Understanding Your Arthritis Discomfort

Arthritis pain typically develops gradually, however the realization of what you are dealing with can still come as a shock. The pain can appear more abruptly, especially when the pain develops in association with a change in weather or other environmental circumstances.

Overcoming Arthritis Pain. Pain medications may provide temporary relief, but they will not help you overcome the pain for good. Physical therapy can provide relief from arthritis by helping to rebuild strength in the joints through targeted movements and flexibility exercises.

Anti-inflammation and Arthritis. One leading form of arthritis treatment is with the use of anti-inflammatory medication. Certain types of arthritis develop as a result of build-up of inflammation in the body. Avoiding certain foods and movements can reduce inflammation, and thereby reduce pain.

Physical Therapy and Arthritis. Physical therapy is highly recommended for the treatment of arthritis because it can strengthen and support the joints through guided practice of movement and strength building exercises. Low-impact activities are typically recommended. Your physical therapist will ensure that you are practicing the best techniques for overcoming your discomfort.

How to Manage Knee Pain

A sensitive area of the body is your knees; they are vulnerable and a simple twist can lead to a serious injury as well as ongoing problems and a long recovery time. Therefore, whether you are performing daily activities or participating in sports, you cannot take chances with this body part.

Research has shown that knee pain can benefit from physical therapy. Those who undergo physical therapy receive twice as much relief as those who do not. In addition to this, manual techniques also improve patients' daily mobility and quality of life.
