Ruth Kern-Scott, PT President, Physical Therapist American College of Sports Medicine Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer, Dance Medicine Certification, Rock Tape Certification, Dry Needling Certification Level 1, Graston Certified, Titleist Performance Institute Level 2 Medical Professional
Ruth is the president of FYZICAL Southeast South Dakota. Ruth attended PT school at the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1984. She attended the United States Sports Academy where she graduated in 1996 with a Masters of Sports Sciences.
Ruth is a lifelong learner and has sought out further learning opportunities throughout her career. Since becoming a physical therapist, Ruth has earned certifications including: American College of Sports Medicine Certified Cancer exercise trainer, Dance Medicine Certification, Rock tape Certification, Dry Needling Certification Level 1, Graston Certification, Postural Restoration, and the Titleist Performance Institute Level 2 Golf Medical Professional.
"I believe in assessing the whole patient and designing a treatment program based on the concept of regional interdependence, recognizing how a restriction or limitation in one body party can affect movement or produce pain in another area. I want to find the cause of my patients’ musculoskeletal problems. I utilize a lot of manual therapy techniques in my sessions including instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, cupping, dry needling, myofascial release and various massage techniques. Ruth is commended for her endless contributions to the dance community as she is revered the pioneer of dance medicine in the region. Ruth has been a leading practitioner in the industry for over 30 years. She has successfully trained and rehabilitated countless dancers including her own daughter who was selected to compete in the International Youth America Grand Prix in 2008 and again in 2010 after extensive dance-specific conditioning. Her daughter has since danced professionally for renowned companies such as Ballet West, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and Sacramento Ballet as well as commercial work with various rap artists.
Ruth has spent countless hours learning about proper pointe shoe fitting, selection and modification at both Capezio and Gaynor Minden in New York City. She is an expert at assessing true turn-out and making recommendations to make every dancer a more skilled mover without injury. She works closely with dance educators and physicians to determine when a dancer is ready to return to dance after injury and is able to give advice on how to modify class activities for an injured dancer.

Kylie Embry, cEP
Kylie joined FYZICAL at the age of 16 after having a dance-related injury. She came to FYZICAL seeking the best care through dance medicine specialist, Ruth Scott, President/PT. At the age of 18, Kylie began working at the Vermillion facility as a Client Care Specialist while she attended undergrad at the University of South Dakota where she earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, with a dance minor.
Kylie is a certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. She also has a variety of other certifications such as Tai Ji Quan: Moving For Better Balance Instruction, Stotts Total Barre Instruction, Kinesology taping certified through RockTape, and a certificate qualitfying her as an American Physical Therapy Association Certified Practice Administrator.
Kylie believes in making every person strong enough, both physically and mentally, to continue engaging in their passion. She finds happiness in allowing her clients to learn what is necessary to take care of their body and mind, so they can help themselves.
"One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to work with clients on their personal goals. I love working with dancers on performance enhancement and injury prevention, and being able to watch them perform and compete at a higher level than they were before. Abbey Clayton, PTA
Abbey attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE where she majored in Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Human Sciences. While in Lincoln, she was an intern at the Madonna Proactive Medical Center and choreographer for Norfolk High School dance team.
She then attended Clarkson College in Omaha, NE where she earned her physical therapist assistant associates degree. Abbey has since received continuing education in Energy Field Tapping (EFT), Vestibular Therapy, and Pelvic Health. Abbey loves being able to help individuals achieve their functional goals and getting them back to the activities they love.
As a former competitive dancer, Abbey has a keen interest in working with high-level dancers and helping them grow their potential.

In her spare time, Abbey enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being physically active, and traveling to new cities.
Cassandra Feske, PT, DPT
Cassandra, DPT, attended South Dakota State University for her undergraduate studies earning her Bachelor's degree in exercise science with a minor in health science. She attended physical therapy school at Briar Cliff University. Cassandra loves being a physical therapist due to the growing relationships, the smiles, the laughter as well as the ability to help patients reach their goals.
Cassandra is SASTM Certified. She has taken continuing education in manual therapy for the cervical and thoracic spine.

Cassandra enjoys the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and making at least one person smile each day.
Madeleine Scott Director of Sales & Marketing, Dance Medicine Coordinator Pilates Certification, BFA in Ballet Performance
Madeleine Scott is our director of Sales and Marketing as well as a member of our Dance Medicine team. She earned her BFA in ballet performance from the University of Utah. She is certified by Balanced Body in Pilates Mat 1 & 2, Reformer 1, and Barre.
Madeleine has been a professional dancer since the age of 15 when she took her first contract with a company in New Hampshire. She has since performed with Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet of Aspen, Colorado, & Sacramento Ballet in California. Madeleine is the founder and artistic director of South Dakota Ballet, the state's first professional ballet company. She is excited for her dancers to experience elite dance-specific care provided by FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers Southeast South Dakota.
Madeleine moves between each of the four facilities to educate our communities about the benefits of physical therapy. She enjoys promoting holistic healthcare as she has been in physical therapy throughout her life.

Jennifer Lauffman, PT, tDPT, ATC
Jennifer, tDPT, ATC is a physical therapist and clinic manager at the Beresford facility. She has been part of the FYZICAL since 2010. She attended Mount Marty College for her undergraduate studies where she earned a BA in Athletic Training and Biology. She then attended physical therapy school at the University of South Dakota.
Jennifer has earned certifications including: Functional Dry Needling, Vestibular Senior Balance Retrainer, Transforming Aging, Running Kinematics and Gait Analysis, Manipulative Management of Lumbar Spine, SDATA Annual Meeting ImPACT Workshop, and Kinesiology Taping. She loves to work with a variety of patients, diagnoses, and treatments.

Jennifer is a people's person! In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog. She loves to spend her time walking her dog, listening to music, and traveling.
Leah Fulker, PT, DPT
Leah, DPT, attended The University of South Dakota for her undergraduate studies where she received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Mathematics in 2008. She then attended physical therapy school at The University of South Dakota graduating in 2012. Leah loves getting to know new patients, learning about their lives and their stories, and being a part of getting them back to the activities they love.
Leah has taken multiple continuing education courses including: Women’s Health, Kinesiology taping, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Dry Needling, treating and managing difficult shoulders, cervical spine and whiplash, lumbopelvic treatments, treatment and evaluation of TMJ, and dizziness and balance training.

Leah has two little boys that are very rambunctious, busy, and a lot of fun! She loves to spend time with her family and burn off some of that energy so they sleep well at night!
Zoe Pease, PTA
Zoe, PTA, attended Western Iowa Tech where she earned her credentials and became a PTA. Zoe believes in treating patients holistically, and empowering the individual through a dialogue fueled by continuing education.
Zoe has many interests and hobbies that keep her busy including sewing, knitting, listening to podcasts, growing plants, hiking, running, healthy cooking, and spending time with my giant family.

Gerad Robertson, PT, DPT, OCS
Gerad, DPT, has been a part of the Southeast South Dakota FYZICAL team since 2013! He is based at the Vermillion facility where he sees patients and also leads as the facility manager. Gerad attended Buena Vista University for undergrad where he graduated with a degree in athletic training. He attended Des Moines University for his masters and doctorate in PT.
Gerad is a certified Athletic Trainer, certified in Vestibular Rehabilitation, Astym Certified, Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, and certified to administer dry needling. He has taken multiple courses to master manual therapy of the spine. Gerad has participated in the complete BACKtoGOLF Course as well as training in Total Motion Release.
Gerad grew up in a medical family and always knew he wanted to do something to help people stay healthy. Gerad realized he could have a really positive impact on people through physical therapy as he would spend time with them and see them through their entire plan of care.

Matthew Meadows, PTA
Matthew, PTA, joined us at FYZICAL in 2018. He received his associates of science in physical threapist assistant degree from Pennsylvania State University. Matthew was active duty in the United State's Air Force for 8 years prior to attnding Penn. State. He is currently an instructor for the United State's Air Force Reserve; we thank him for his service.

In his spare time, Matthew finds enjoyment participating in weight training and outdoor activities.
Sarah Roob, PT
Sarah, PT, earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of South Dakota. She attended physical therapy school at the University of South Dakota as well. Sarah has many continuing education courses including courses in Postural Restoration from the Postural Restoration Institute, Kinesiotaping, Foot & Ankle, Hip, Shoulder, the Mulligan Technique, Manual Therapy of the lumbar spine, and Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction.
Sarah loves being able to help people improve their function and therefore their lives! She says, "It is very rewarding to assist someone in achieving their goals and getting back to enjoying living life to its fullest".

Sarah is the mother of 5 children and the wife to a loving husband, Paul. She stays very busy attending her kids' various sporting events and activities! She enjoys reading and gardening in the summer.
