Types of Sports Injuries
We treat all sorts of sports injuries with a scientific methodology, skilled treatments and individualized care. Here’s just some of the things we can help you with:
- Sprains and strains — these injuries involve ligaments or muscles that surround your joints. Most of the time they happen when the tissues are overstretched or torn by excessive force or movement - you know like when you roll your ankle.
- Tendinitis — this is one that I am intimately aquatinted with and so thankful that I found effective therapy and treatment. Tendinitis involves inflammation of the tendons that attach muscles to bones and occurs due to overuse or repetitive strain on a joint. With sports doing the same motion over and over developing tendinitis somewhere is pretty common. Runners get it in their knees ball players get it in their elbows and shoulders. We know what to do.
- Knee injury — these injuries involve injury to the cartilage, ligaments, tendons, or bones of the knee (obvious I know). Most of the time knee injuries occur due to improper body mechanics, overuse, or trauma (don’t worry we know how to diagnose and treat all of them).
- Achilles tendon injury — this is an injury to the tendon that connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. It’s one of the biggest tendons in the body and can quite troublesome when it is not functioning. This injury typically occurs with repetitive or sudden movements that overstretch, tear, or rupture the tendon - we got you.
- Shin splints — the bane of people who run everywhere. This injury involves tenderness and pain in the front of the shin bone and usually occur due to overuse, stress fracture, muscle imbalance or faulty footwear - we have an answer and treatment for you.
- Rotator cuff injury — your rotator cuff is actually a group of tendons and muscles that surround the shoulder joint (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis - if you want to get fancy). Rotator cuff injuries include inflammation, impingement - that just means one or more tendons aren’t moving well, or tears and are the result of degeneration, overuse, or trauma. We can get you a personalized plan to minimize pain and increase your range of motion.
- Fracture — yup, this is what you think it is, a break or crack in the bone that occurs due to overuse or trauma, the can help you rebuild your muscles around the fractured area and give you treatment to help recover and prevent future injury.
- Dislocation — involves movement of the joint beyond its normal position. Which is just as gross and painful as you think it is. It can happen to basically any joint of your body and it usually occurs due to trauma, including sudden impact or movement, falls, or contact sports. The sooner you start physical therapy the sooner you can restore proper function to your dislocated joint

Usually that plan will include things like hands-on therapy and sport-specific functional exercises. These manipulations, modalities, and treatments are designed to decreasing your pain, strengthen your muscles, and deepen your core stability. Your plan will also work at correcting biomechanical imbalance - this just means that most of have ways that our bodies move that make us susceptible to injury so we work to change those movements.
