Greetings

Welcome to FYZICAL Venice's March Newsletter!

March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month - Continue reading to learn more about MS, tips on how to manage a neurological disorder, and some delicious new recipes!

What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?

Multiple Sclerosis involves the loss of myelin, a material that covers and protects the nerves in the body's central nervous system. Once this loss occurs, nerves can't successfully communicate with one another. Symptoms vary from person-to-person, depending on what part of the nervous system is affected. This could include structures that control movement, sensation, and mental and emotional processes. Typically, the first sign of MS is a change in vision, which could be double vision. Most people who've been diagnosed with MS have also experienced difficulty walking and controlling their body movements.

How Can Physical Therapists Help Manage MS Symptoms?

Did you know that Physical Therapists are movement experts?

If you've been diagnosed with MS recently, physical therapy can help you regain and maintain muscle strength, flexibility, and gait. Physical therapy for MS will begin with a comprehensive assessment of your health history and current condition. Your physical therapist will create a custom-made program to assist you with managing symptoms. Typical treatment will include strength training and exercise programs. Our ultimate goal is to help you improve movement, function, and your overall balance. To learn more about our Neurological Rehabilitation program, click the button below.

Exercise Can Benefit Those Diagnosed with a Neurological Disorder

Following an exercise program that focuses on building strength, balance training, stretching and aerobic training can be beneficial for those who have been diagnosed with early MS and other neurological disorders. Staying fit and keeping your body strong can assist you with managing symptoms.
