Physical Therapy Can Assist in Concussion Recovery

A concussion is a brain injury that is caused by a blow to the head or violent shaking of the head and body. The impact causes a biochemical imbalance within the brain cells, resulting in decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain.

Concussion symptoms typically include loss of consciousness, headache, pressure in the head, neck pain, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, or balance problems. Physical therapy can help offer relief and reduce the symptoms of those suffering from a concussion. A personalized treatment plan consisting of exercises to promote healing can make all the difference during your recovery.

At FYZICAL Wallingford, your physical therapist will help you safely return to activities following a concussion. The exercises designed to help you acclimate back to your routine normally consist of stretching, strengthening, and balance activities. Over time you may experience progress like decreased headache frequency, improved cognitive function, better sleep quality, and reduced risk of prolonged post-concussion syndrome symptoms. Without the proper care, you will be at an increased risk of re-injury or additional long-term complications. If you have experienced a concussion, FYZICAL can help you get on the road to recovery. With support from our team, you can take steps toward a successful and lasting recovery.

Physical Therapy Can Help Manage Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a nervous system disease, which injures the myelin sheath, the material that surrounds and protects your nerve cells. This affects your brain and spinal cord and can create damage that stops or slows down messages between your brain and the rest of your body. The symptoms can include visual impairment, muscle fatigue, imbalance, and cognitive decline.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis recently, physical therapy can help regain and maintain strength, flexibility, and general fitness. Physical therapy for Multiple Sclerosis will begin with a comprehensive assessment of your health history and current condition. Our physical therapists will create a custom-made program to assist you with managing your symptoms!

Meet Our Team!

Dr. Nicole Dolan, PT, DPT from Southington, CT

With a background in competitive gymnastics, Nicole was exposed to her fair share of injuries and rehabilitation. The hands-on process of helping people was something that she always knew she wanted to do from the first time she went to physical therapy. Nicole was first introduced to FYZICAL during her clinical rotations in graduate school at Quinnipiac, where she spent three months interning at the Southington clinic, developing her skills in treating balance and vestibular conditions.

Not long after getting her doctorate degree, and passing her boards, she joined the FYZICAL team full-time so she could continue helping patients of all ages with their rehabilitation process and getting them back to doing what they love. Nicole is also a Level III Master Balance and Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialist, and LSVT Big Certified.
