Welcome to the September newsletter from FYZICAL Woodbury.

In this newsletter we’re discussing Fight the Fall month.

FALLS AWARENESS MONTH

At FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers, fall prevention is one of the cornerstones of our mission; we believe that Balance is Core to Your Wellness! Each year, hundreds of thousands of Americans in communities across the US are injured due to falls, but did you know that some falls can be prevented?

More than one in four older adults fall annually but falls affect us all – from our loved ones to caregivers, falls impact us physically, emotionally, and mentally.

FYZICAL joins thousands of healthcare providers, partnering with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) & the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for Fall Awareness month this September. It’s important to know that some falls are preventable. Here are some tips that you, or a loved one, can take to prevent future falls:

-        Get an Annual Fall Risk Screening and discuss your fall history

-        Have your hearing and vision tested

-        Utilize an assistive device if you need help feeling steady when upright

-        Wear non-skid, supportive footwear

-        Continue to stay physically active

-        Utilize resource partners like the NCOA or CDC

With prevention top of mind, we are offering Free Fall Risk Screenings, Friday, September 30th, from 10am-1pm and Saturday, October 1st from 10am-1pm, to our patients and the broader community to help determine if you or a loved one is at risk for falling.

If you would like more information about our free screenings or you’d like to schedule a screening, please call 651-501-2010 or email Jan.Hanson@fyzical.com with the day and time that would work best for you and we will get back to you with a confirmation.

If you or a loved one feels unsteady on your feet, has experienced a fall, or just wants to put your best foot forward, contact us today to schedule an appointment. Together, we can Fight the Fall!

What kind of injuries do Cheerleaders
deal with?

Cheerleading was initially established to boost team spirit and encourage unity among peers. Today, it is well-recognized as a competitive athletic event that requires a highly precise skill set.

Due to the combination of complex routines, stunts, and gymnastics, cheerleading is also associated with an increased risk of injuries.

Understanding Thoracic disc herniation

Thoracic disc herniation occurs when protective material inside a spinal disc shifts out of place. For many people, a herniated disc is discovered during MRI testing for a different problem as few people experience symptoms due to this issue.

If thoracic disc herniation is discovered, assessing potential effects on the spinal cord is vital.
