Complete Decongestive Therapy
At FYZICAL Corpus Christi, oncology patients can benefit from the services of our therapist who is certified in Complete Decongestive Therapy, also known as Lymphedema Management. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we shared our special interest in lymphedema management on our blog post called Physical Therapy for Breast Cancer Patients.
What is lymphedema?
Lymphedema often occurs in cancer patients when lymph nodes are removed or damaged. This results in a buildup of fluid which causes the arms and/or legs to swell, a condition that limits mobility and is potentially painful.
How can we help?
Our therapist, Dr. Gene Lopez DPT, received certification in complete decongestive therapy by attending the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy, an intense training program, which offered firsthand experience under the supervision of experts in the field. Treatments rely on a combination of manual lymphatic drainage, compression, and light exercise to reduce swelling and prevent possible secondary symptoms such as infection, cracked and itchy skin, or pain.
At FYZICAL Therapy & Balance center, our Complete Decongestive Therapy can help our patients get back to their everyday activities with improved mobility and comfort.
