Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

At FYZICAL, our therapists use dry needling to treat pain and movement impairments. The technique works by inserting a very thin “dry” filiform needle, free from medication or injection, into trigger points or targeted areas of the muscle. This is turn, stimulates underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues. Unlike other forms of therapy, the needle allows our FYZICAL therapist to target tissues that are not manually palpable. (A myofascial trigger point consists of multiple contraction knots, which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle).

What Type of Problems can be Treated with Dry Needling?

Dry needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Muscles are thought to be a primary contributing factor to the symptoms. Such conditions include, but are not limited to:
  - neck/back/shoulder pain
  - tennis elbow
  - carpal tunnel
  - golfer’s elbow
  - tension headaches and migraines
  - sciatica
  - hamstrings strains
  -  calf tightness/spasm

 Fast Relief

Dry needling can reduce pain by relaxing knotted muscles to improve blood flow and circulation.

Range of Motion

Tight muscles can limit your movement. Dry needling works to retrain your muscle to build strength and range of motion.

Recovery

Recovery tends to be the longest part following an injury. However, patients who partake in dry needling have experienced quicker pain relief and recovery.

Reduce Pain

Dry needling works towards easing myofascial pain syndrome and fibromyalgia, two common chronic pain conditions.

Trigger Points

Our therapists utilize dry needling to inactivate or release trigger points. This improves range of motion and relieves pain.
