What are Pelvic Floor Disorders?

Pelvic floor disorders are a group of conditions that affect the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is made up of skin, muscles, ligaments, connective tissue, nerves, blood vessels, and organs in the pelvis. The pelvic floor supports the body, stabilizes the pelvic girdle and spine, and supports the bladder, rectum, and pelvic organs. Pelvic floor disorders are common and affect women of all ages. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is the First Line of Treatment for Bladder and Bowel Control, and Pelvic Pain Conditions.

Treatment for Pelvic Floor Disorders

  - Pelvic floor disorders cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as urine leakage and or pain, and can lead to embarrassing and disabling limitations in daily life. Some people are so embarrassed by these issues that they don’t seek help. Many don’t know that pelvic physical therapy treatments for pelvic floor disorders involve no medication or surgery and are highly effective and supported by very strong research.

  - Physical therapy treatment of pelvic floor disorders is highly specialized and is provided only by physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who have completed advanced post-graduate education and training.
At your initial evaluation, the physical therapist will review your symptoms or concerns, and conduct a comprehensive examination in a private setting.
The therapist will then thoroughly explain your diagnosis, and partner with you to create a plan of care to meet your treatment goals.

  - Enjoying a pain-free life with reasonable bladder control, physical activity, laughter, and sexual health require healthy pelvic floor muscles. At FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers, we believe that having a healthy pelvic floor will help you to Love Your Life!

Incontinence

Pelvic incontinence, or the unintentional loss of urine, is a common condition that affects many women at different stages of life. It can result from pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or weakened pelvic floor muscles. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy offers a safe, non-surgical, and highly effective way to strengthen the pelvic muscles, regain bladder control, and improve confidence in daily activities. Early treatment can help women live comfortably and actively without worrying about leaks.

 Pre and Post Partum

Pregnancy and childbirth place unique demands on a woman’s pelvic floor, which can lead to discomfort, urinary or bowel changes, and pelvic weakness. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy helps women prepare their bodies for labor, recover more comfortably afterward, and restore strength and function. Early guidance and specialized exercises can prevent long-term issues and support a healthy, active lifestyle for both mom and baby.
