Parkinson's Disease Programs
We Specialize in Helping People with Parkinson's Disease
Physical therapy is a key aspect of treatment for people with Parkinson's disease. It can help you remain active and independent as long as possible.
It is essential to discuss any exercise program with your physician and get a referral to a physical therapist with expertise in Parkinson’s disease before starting any specific program. We will work closely with your doctor to tailor a program that is right for you and targets your specific symptoms.
How Can Physical Therapy Help?
A specialty trained Physical Therapist can guide you through the right moves to increase mobility, strength and balance, and help you remain independent. Research shows that physical therapy significantly improves symptoms related to motor skills.
What is PWR!Moves?
PWR stands for Parkinson's Wellness Recovery and it is the core of our Parkinson's disease specific program at FYZICAL Shavano Park.
Our Physical Therapist is certified in PWR!Moves and will work with you to develop an individually-tailored program of "moves" aimed to target skills that are known to deteriorate in people with Parkinson disease, which often leads to loss of mobility and function.
The PWR!Moves can be practiced in multiple positions, made progressively more physically and cognitively challenging, and be used differently to target each person’s unique symptoms individually.
Specialized Technology
We also use state-of-the-art technology, such as the Neubie and the Solo Step overhead support harness, to maximize the benefits of treatment.
