What Is A Bike Fit?

A bike fitting allows us to maximize the set up of your bike (whether that’s changing the distance of your reach to your handlebars or height of your saddle, for example) to optimize comfort and performance, for you, the rider. As specialists in physical therapy, we are uniquely qualified to look at your posture, positioning and body mechanics while also taking into consideration any underlying issues or past injuries.

*We fit road, cyclocross, gravel, hybrids, city, some e-bikes, and mountain bikes

Who Would Benefit From A Bike Fit?

  • Riders who are experiencing pain or discomfort on the bike. Making even small changes can drastically change your mechanics and alleviate pain.
  • Riders who have recently purchased a new bike or want to start significantly increasing their riding time. A fit can prevent future injuries. You don’t have to be an experienced rider to be in this category. As a matter of fact, new riders benefit greatly from having their bike set up for success before putting in the time and miles on the bike.
  • Riders who have been previously fitted on their bike, but have been injured or their flexibility and strength has changed significantly. It may be time to make adjustments so that your bike better fits your body.
  • Riders that want to improve their performance. Changes in positioning on the bike can influence what muscle groups are more activated than others, as well as improving aerodynamics without compromising comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I bring into the bike fitting?

You’ll want to bring the shoes you ride in and your bike. Please wear shorts so that we can properly assess knee alignment. If you wear bike shorts (with a chamois), please wear them. If bringing in shoes with cleats, make sure the bolts are not stripped or worn down. Cleats should be changed once per year.

Does insurance cover a fitting?

Your insurance or health savings account may apply if the service is deemed “medically necessary”, meaning your pain is caused by the bike fit/ your positioning on the bike. In order to determine if this applies to you, an initial evaluation with any of our physical therapists would be your first visit. The bike fit would happen on your second visit for a one hour ergonomic bike fitting.

Testimonials

“I’ve been riding bikes ‘seriously’ (but always having fun) for 25-years. Well, make that 35+ if you count the epic BMX years as a kid.

SO.MANY.SWEET. JUMPS!

With age and higher mileage came aches and pains. I really appreciated how meticulous Trish was in her approach to my fitting and would highly recommend a session with her for anyone looking for more comfort on their rides!”

-Augusto Carneiro

"I had been experiencing multiple areas of concern while riding my bike for years. As a physical therapist, I needed someone who understood mechanics and anatomy and could apply it to my situation. Trish Jilot was incredibly helpful in guiding me to a better fitting ride. She is kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. She took the time to help me understand both thecontributing factors to my previous concerns and helping me find a better bike fit."
